Option 2: Canberra-Tumut-Canberra loop (http://goo.gl/maps/wKxBR) with a food stop around Tumbarumba, Batlow, Tumut. Other stops as appropriate :)

Those on the ride can make a call at Cooma on whether to turn left or right.
