This years 34th Kosciuszko Rally was held at Geehi under fantastic spring weather and whilst overall numbers were smaller than we would have liked (47) everyone had a good time.

We had rallyists from BMWOCSA (3), BMWMCCQLD (1) and BMWTCNSW (7) along with other riders who all made the trip along with others.  Your Club had 14 members, the most number in recent years and can it be bettered in 2016?

In a change, the Club had BBQ dinner of Germanic trimmed Kransky hotdogs on Saturday night and for those making it to Club Meetings the ever popular egg'n'bacon roll and espresso coffee on Sunday morning.

The raffle was well supported with Club Member and day tripper Nigel McFarlane taking the top prize, a BMW Evo6 helmet donated by BMW Group Australia.  The other prizes were no less received as were the award recipients for Longest Distance Rider (>1200km), longest Distance Pillion (~500km), Youngest Rider & bike (34), Oldest Bike & Rider (123), Smallest Club (x2) and Largest Club (7).

Whilst we tally up the accounts, it looks like the Club will contribute ~$500 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service. A most worthwhile and hopefully never needed service.

You can see more pictures on the Club's Kosciuszko Rally page.

    Dear Member,

It is with great pleasure that the team at Innotesco invites you to come and see Rukka clothing at the Finnish Embassy in Canberra,  Saturday 19th September from 10am until 3.30pm.

We are attending the “Windows to the World” Event, a very popular centenary of Canberra program of Embassy and High Commission Open Days and Tours.

You can find more information by following the link: http://www.events.act.gov.au/windows

We will be showcasing some of our most popular Rukka motorcycle clothing, which is not available in Canberra. So come along and experience the superb quality of Rukka gear for yourself.

Please note that we do not have the capacity to take the jackets/ trousers in every colour and size with us.

So, if there is any particular piece of clothing you would like to see, please inform us asap. The sooner we hear what you desire to see at the embassy, the better the chances are that we will be able to bring them along with us.

If you know any of your friends/ colleagues who are interest in the Rukka clothing, please forward this information on to them too.

Unfortunately as this is a specific event to showcase Finnish designed products, we are unable to have our Daytona boots at the stand. We apologise for any inconvenience.

If you really would like to see the boots, we can arrange to bring along some samples that you can see prior to the event or afterwards.

    Place: Finnish Embassy, Concert Hall
    Time: Saturday 19th September at 10am – 3.30pm
Address: 12 Darwin Avenue, Yarralumla, ACT 2600

If you need any further information, please feel free to contact us.

We hope to see you in Canberra!

    Kind regards,

     Mari-Anne Pessi

From Motorcyclist Online, and well spotted by Club Member, Hoss, is this article suggesting that the Munich engineers are working on an electric boxer. Here is some of the story:-

Electric motors are just boring to look at, and after more than a century of motorcycles designed to emphasize the mechanical beauty of their engines it’s hard to let go of that. But BMW’s latest development could be a solution to that issue.

The idea is simply to attach two electric motors to a central transmission, with one poking out each side of the bike just like the cylinders on a boxer twin. The transmission rotates their drive by 90 degrees to allow the use of a shaft drive, again in conventional BMW style. To boost the look, and to take advantage of the fact the motors are hanging out of the sides of the bike, the patent indicates that air-cooled motors are likely to be used, complete with functional cooling fins on their aluminium cases, which would help complete the illusion.

Here is the link to an artists impression.

The Zundschlussel Run Newsletter #5 is up on the website http://www.bmweventnsw.com.au/.  If you cannot make it to Sydney for the 'Show & Shine' or going to the MotoGP, then why not plan a ride to the coast and watch the cavalcade roll by on Monday 12th October 2015.

Five Club members and one visitor from the BMWTCNSW met at the BP Yass Rd Queanbeyan for an on time 10am departure.  Despite the rider's briefing of this being a 'sport' economy run or was it having passed 3 AFP on the way to the meet point, some of those present intentions were set early in that this was to be a serious effort.

This ride was also notable for the fact we had 3 BMW R1200ST's in attendance (think hens teeth), along with Elliot and his newish R1200RT wasser boxer and Martin's blinged R1200R.

Our ride to Bungonia Lookdown was pleasant with little traffic before heading into Marulan and Terminus Hotel for lunch.  Our return leg had us take the Hume to Queanbeyan before turning off for Grabben Gullen.  The events seriousness was evident seeing two BMW's sheltering behind a grey nomad & van on the highway in an attempt to reduce their drag and improve economy.

A latte stop in Gunning saw a comparison of fuel used, providing riders a final opportunity to improve their standings on our run back through Sutton to Canberra before the final refuelling point at BP Watson.  This unfortunately coincided with Manly supporters exodus having beaten the Raiders meaning a longer than anticipated wait for a bowser.

With tally sheets handed in and farewells bade we headed home.  My GPS had us travel 330km (to home) at an average moving speed of 79kmh over 4.04 hours.  Oh and who won?  See below.

    Fellow Members

I'll start this month by welcoming Geoff Williams to the Club and look forward to meeting you on a ride or at an event.

After a cold beginning to winter, this week we saw snow in the National Capital and whilst brief nor long lasting did make for an impressive sight.  Less so for those of us who were outdoors.

The What's On calendar continues to be full of rides and events and for those who didn't get enough snow, you should have come on the Club's overnight ride to Rockley and back via Black Springs which saw Treasurer Bob, Social Sec Martin and me ride through cylinder head scraping and occasionally over snow - at least for the 1200's whilst Bob tested his 800's new knobby tyres.  Sue & Dave Morgan made the return trip via Orange for family, but we all enjoyed the hospitality of Jimmy at the Club House Hotel Rockley.  See the story on the blog or join our Facebook Group page.

This coming weekend sees the Club head to Bungonia, Marulan (lunch) and return via Gunning on an economy ride (really), so complete the form provided on-the-day and look out for the results.  You can claim bonus litres/km for pillions, panniers and (proper) knobby tyres.  What's more attending Club rides and events earn you points and keep you in the running for Club Person of the Year.

Whilst we have a full calendar of rides and events often attracting >10%+ of Club Members, I do wonder what the remaining 90% want from the Club?  To that end you will receive a personalised invitation to complete a survey in the guise of an event registration.  Please have a look as the survey only takes 5 minutes to complete and I'll publish the results next month.  There are comment boxes and non-survey options as well.

Further out, planning for the your Clubs 34th Kosciouzko Rally is progressing so make sure you keep the weekend free and tell your riding friends about it.  BMW Group (Aust) has donated the major raffle prize of a BMW Evo6 Helmet or Rally Pro Jacket.  Tickets are for sale at any Club event.

Christmas is also approaching and Social Sec Martin tasked with exploring venues and options that would appeal to a greater number of members.  Options include a gourmet BBQ lunch, set or self selected dinner meals in Canberra or an overnight ride to a regional town inclusive of a range of accommodation options.  If you have a favourite, then send Martin an email Social@bmwmccact.org.au.

I look forward to seeing you on the next ride or event and until then enjoy the ride,

    Garry Smee
    President
