I'll open by welcoming everyone to the new Club year and look forward to your active participation during 2016/17. A special mention to our newest members Nicholas Pearce and Paul Davis and Murray Booker the new Motorrad Service Advisor @ Rolfe Classic. I look forward to meeting each of you on a ride or at an event.
Thanks to everyone who turned up for the Club AGM. Not usually the riding or social highlight of any Club calendar but nonetheless an important one, and who didn't eat their fill of party pies, sausage rolls, dim sims and spring rolls. There was a vote of appreciation by acclamation and applause to the outgoing Committee and for those who didn't know or hadn't guessed, thanks for your vote and election as President for another year along with VP Dave Prest, Treasurer Bob Ellison, Club Secretary & Membership Sec Martin Robertson and returning to active duty Social Sec Steve Hay (+ Public Officer) on the Committee.
What's On? Well may you ask and I can only remind each of you to check the Club's What's On page for upcoming rides and events. Where available use the registration option as this helps in planning the event, providing email updates directly to those so interested and puts you in the running for Club Person of the Year as points are awarded only to registered entrants. A couple of events deserve advance warning, consideration and planning -
- Compass Expeditions, East Coast Tour. Jointly hosted by our Club at the Canberra Irish Club at 7.30pm on Tuesday 3 May, this promises to be a most interesting night of adventure ride stories past and future. The event is open to the public and I encourage each of you to share the event flyer with your friends, other Clubs or interested persons. You can dine beforehand or socialise during and after the show and do not need to be a member of the Canberra Irish Club to attend.
- Christmas in Winter; the joint ride to and dinner with the BMWMCCVIC. This year we are hosts and will ride to western Victoria and a Murray River township.
- 2016 BMW Motorrad Rally in Bright Victoria. The BMWMCCVIC are hosts and follows our very successful 2014 rally in Lake Cargelligo where we donated over $750 to the Lake Cargelligo Hospital and had 80+ entrants stay in town for 1, 2+ nights.
- For the rally goers, August sees the 40th Border Run to Eucla Village (SA/WA) and Off Centre Rally at Mungerannie (on Birdsville Track) a week later.
You and our Club are members of a select community - BMW Clubs International and BMW Clubs Australia. 2016 marks 100 years of BMW manufacturing and an international show in Munich during October. Closer to home, BMW Clubs Australia is data mining how many members purchased a new BMW in the last 12 months. Why? Well, if you were a member of BMW Motorcycle Owners of America then you would have gotten up to 20% discount and rebate on your new motorcycle purchased from BMW America. So if you purchased a new BMW motorcycle during the past year (Jan 15 - Mar 16) within Australia can you please respond to this email, with a YES in the subject line. No other details are required as only the total number of motorcycles purchased will be presented to BMW Group (Australia).
Finally, remember it's your Club, so if you're not seeing something you would like let me and the Committee know.
Enjoy the ride,
