New road hazards for Canberra riders

It seems as though the Canberra version of dropping rocks from overpasses may be to place treated pine logs on the road. Last Friday night at 0130 I hit one and dinted both rims on Eastern Valley Way approaching the intersection with College street (Google maps link); I was doing the speed limit. If the following intersection had red lights, I would not have stopped in time due to the time airbourne and no longer having round wheels. Thankfully lights were green and I kept it upright. I keep wondering how I could not have seen the log, the bike has perfectly fine headlights after all!

Once I stopped, I helped pull the logs off the road and rang the police (but what can they do?), but there’s plenty of shadow and open spaces on either side of the road for peeps to watch and run away under cover of darkness. With the traffic I saw going past it was a 10 minute window at best. As I live a nearby and was not going to sleep any time soon I drove back with a camera and took some pics.
